BTS signs on to a letter directed to the President of Guatemala, with copies sent appropriate ministries and governmental institutions, whereby the international community expresses its concern over the increase of attacks against human rights defenders – particularly among which those who work in favour of indigenous rights and a healthy environment. The letter urges the government to strengthen the Centre for Analysis of Attacks against Human Rights Defenders in Guatemala, with the goal of not only analyzing the string of attacks that have occurred against human rights defenders but also ensure that the corresponding authorities and institutions collaborate so as to ensure proper prevention and protection.
