We are currently looking to hire a Media & Design Intern through the Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) Career-Launcher Internships program. This is a paid full-time position starting as early as Nov. 16, 2020, and running until March 1, 2020. Remuneration will range from $15-$17/hour pending on final budget approval.

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the internship
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada1
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations

The Media & Design Intern will work in collaboration with colleagues. The candidate will be responsible for translating research from the team into clear visual educational tools which can be published to social media, shared with the BTS network, and beyond.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop illustrations, animations, videos, and other educational tools based on information synthesized from research and/or current events;
  • Remotely collaborate with colleagues to ensure optimal delivery and impact of information;
  • Create tools across different forms of social media and forms of dissemination;
  • Develop all graphics in accordance with BTS’s photograph and promotional guidelines;
  • Respond to feedback by creating revisions and future designs;
  • Remain informed of graphic trends;
  • Attend and participate in regular meetings with support staff;
  • Integrate well into the BTS team and its collective processes, supporting necessities that may arise; 
  • Assist with special projects as required.

Knowledge and skills

Required knowledge and skills:

  • Experienced using various software for image manipulation and video creation;
  • Experienced in graphic design;
  • Knowledge of various social media platforms;
  • Experience using graphics for online public engagement is an asset;
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both in a self-directed manner and collaboratively in a small team;
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
  • Detail-oriented;
  • Experience working from an anti-oppression solidarity framework.

Desired knowledge and skills:

  • Experience working from a distance;
  • Good knowledge of BTS and/or experience with social justice movements;
  • Spanish language abilities.
