We started off our day with breakfast around 7:45 a.m., our final meal at IMAP. We packed our things and said our goodbyes to everyone before our driver Martin picked us up around 8:30 a.m. We took a different route back stopping at a magnificent viewpoint with a view of the volcanoes overlooking Lake Atitlán and some little shops. It was a long drive back to Guatemala and we needed to make a few additional stops, but we made it!

We had lunch at a place called Patsy. We ate Chimichuri chicken and fries. Got some iced coffees to go and headed to the Casa de la Memoria: the house of memory. Our tour guide Jeremy walked us through the museum. It was a large summary of all the things we’ve been learning on our trip. It showed the history from the first arrival of Spanish colonizers, the Guatemalan spring, the Internal Armed Conflict (IAC), and ongoing social justice advocacy and repression. It was a very emotional walk through seeing all the horrible things that happened throughout history and what is still happening. It was very suiting at the same time because it really recapped and ties together everything that we learned in the past week.

We arrived at Casa San Benito around 4:30pm and said our goodbyes to Javier. We had a good rest for a few hours after a long day. Dinner was served at 6:30pm. We had some yummy chicken, potatoes and salad. We finished off with some journaling and reflecting on the day and what we learned. We have an early start tomorrow, so we headed off to bed early. ¡Buenas Noches!
