BTS Annual Gathering: RE-CONNECT!
October 22 - October 24
We urge you to attend RE-CONNECT!, the Breaking the Silence Annual Gathering Friday, October 22nd, 7pm– Sunday, October 25th, 1pm, in Tatamagouch, NS.
This is a critical moment for Breaking the Silence solidarity, as Guatemala continues to feel the impacts of COVID-19, along with heightened repression. Especially this year, your presence will make a difference as we re-connect in person. (We will ensure a safe weekend by following all health protocols.)
We will make and refresh connections, be updated on struggles in Guatemala and Mi’kmaki and be renewed for ongoing support and action. Rony Lec, founder of BTS partner, the Meso-American Perma-Culture Institute, (IMAP) is our Guatemalan guest. This is your opportunity to get to know Este Chep, BTS Guatemala Coordinator, who will update us on the extremely serious Guatemalan human rights context and the situation of BTS partners. We are delighted that Jeremias Tecu will join us for a BTS launch of In The Arms of Inup, Jeremias’ moving story of his life as a refugee in Guatemala and in Fredericton, written by Eve Mills Allen. Cooperants Laura Robinson and Indigo Christ will share their experiences as Maritime-based Cooperants in 2021, and we will hear about plans for the 2022 Cooperant Program.
As always, there will be time for staff reports, community building, a Silent Auction and a Saturday night fiesta.
Please read our Covid-19 protocols for our onsite gatherings.
Your participation matters more than ever this year! We hope to have as many BTS members and supporters as possible. So please come to make or renew connections, get updated on struggles in Guatemala and Mi’kmaki, and be inspired to ongoing support and action.
Bursaries are provided by the Breaking the Silence Network. We sell Guatemalan crafts and BTS coffee during the year to ensure that all who support BTS are able to attend. Please do not stay away because of a lack of funds! We need you! It is helpful for you to pay a portion of the cost, if you are able. To apply for a bursary please click “Partial Bursary” under payment options and our Registrar will contact you.
